Ananta characters: every playable character we know so far

All 16 Ananta characters in one table: role, weapon or style, playable or not and source. Six are officially playable, eight are reported, two are NPCs.

  • We list 16 Ananta characters: six officially playable, eight reported by the press and fan wikis, two official NPCs[1][10][11].
  • The six official playable characters are the Captain, Shi Ye, Taffy, Richie, Wei Yinglong and Seymour[1][2].
  • There is no character gacha: all playable characters are obtained for free by playing[4][5][3].

Ananta has six officially presented playable characters: the Captain, Shi Ye, Taffy, Richie, Wei Yinglong and Seymour[1][2]. The press and fan wikis name eight more, and the official site shows two NPCs, for 16 characters in total. Here is the full roster with its sources.

Who are all 16 Ananta characters?

We cross-checked the Pocket Tactics character list[10], the Playable Characters category of the Ananta Fandom wiki[11] and PC Gamer's guide[3] against the official website on October 8, 2026[1]. Names stay in their original form in every language, because NetEase has published no localized names. Linked names have their own sheet on this site.

Only six characters are listed as playable on the official website today[1]. Alan, Bansy, Mechanika and Ringo used to appear there before the September 23, 2025 update, according to Pocket Tactics[10]: they are marked unconfirmed until NetEase lists them again. Pocket Tactics also spotted two unnamed characters in the trailers, a black-haired woman with a sword and a bow and a blonde with red horns walking a dog[10]; they are not counted here.

How do you get characters in Ananta?

By playing. Ananta has no character gacha: first reported by Famitsu and relayed by AUTOMATON, then repeated by the developers, all playable characters are obtained for free through gameplay and story progression[4][5][3]. Monetization focuses on cosmetics such as outfits, with home and vehicle customization also cited[4][5]. PC Gamer notes that it is not confirmed whether paid cosmetics will be sold directly or through a randomized system of their own[3].

How does switching between characters work?

Players switch between several characters, each with their own story. The developers told TechRadar that a character you are not controlling "continues to live their own life"[5]. The 2023 Project Mugen reveal described four-character team combat[8]; later previews describe character switching rather than fast team swaps, and NetEase has not clarified whether the 2023 description still applies[3]. At Gamescom 2026, the press demo included a story segment built around Wei Yinglong, according to AUTOMATON[6].

What happened to the female Captain?

Both a male and a female Captain have been shown over the game's history[1][3]. PC Gamer notes that the female Captain has disappeared from recent marketing, which fuels discussion among players, but that she has not been confirmed as removed[3]. NetEase has not made an official statement: her status at launch is not yet announced. Details are on the Captain's page.

What is not yet confirmed?

  • The final launch roster of playable characters.
  • Whether the characters reported by the press will be playable.
  • The status of the female Captain.
  • Official French, Spanish, German and Portuguese names for the characters.

We do not publish tier lists or ability guesses: the game is not playable yet.
